West Africa AIDS Project /AIDS 3
(2001-2006)
Support to community groups
The "Support to Community Groups" component (APCOM)
reinforces
the 9 country teams by providing conceptual, programmatic
and management support.
Associative life is a key element in the rising of community efforts to
stimulate a better health, particularly concerning STI and
AIDS as they pound down high risk groups. Il is also a key
element linking health initiatives with the health
system. APCOM targets commercial sex users and young people,
and is a health promotion mecanism including condom use and
early service demand to health facilities. APCOM provides
technical, managerial and financial support. Emphasis will
be put on gender unequal relationships. Both male and female
condoms will be offered.
Operational research will be undertaken. Successes and lessons learned
will be collected as technical documents and distributed.
National, sub-regional and internaitonal partnerships will
be encouraged.
