Expertise

Since 1987, CCISD has developed practical expertise in a number of health-related fields on the international scene, in particular:

  • the fight against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and AIDS in Africa: the intervention, in nine countries in West Africa, is multidisciplinary and is aimed at better control of the epidemic caused by HIV through rigorous surveillance of STI syndromes, combined with community participation and modification of the relationships between women and men

  • a functional approach to the mobilization, support and supervision of community groups
  • epidemiological surveillance: training of local teams is supported by operating in networks and integrating new information technologies (NITs) adapted to the community

  • access to Primary health care: the projects completed in the Ouidah district (Benin) and the shantytowns of Lima (Peru) deserve mention

  • specialized training: this involves support for training establishments or the training of staffmembers working on major projects

  • women's health: aspects which concern reproductive health are considered priorities. The approach adopted to date has enabled women to regain control over their own health, within a gender and development outlook
  • Intervention to promote early-childhood development, meaning comprehensive care for young children, empowerment of mothers, training for day-care staff, community participation, and support for NGOs and local early-childhood centres in disadvantaged environments

The nature of these projects has led CCISD to develop effective management and follow-up monitoring mechanisms integrated into a results-based approach.

Moreover, the expertise acquired in the field has been the subject of regular discussion and review by the teams working on multidisciplinary projects as well as by the scientific committee and subcommittees which plan relevant operational research dealing with the mandates given to CCISD.
