Women's health

Women’s health is a key issue. Due to social inequities and the fact that they have very little input on their living conditions (if at all), women have in fact been more susceptible to socio-economic problems. This situation has had a direct influence on their physical health.

On the other hand, because they are responsible for the well-being of children and families, women have a key-role in community life. Anything that would improve their health and living conditions would also have an impact on the community.

To give shape to its contribution, the CCISD setup in 1996 the Perspectives santé des femmes committee. Its mandate is to develop projects and promote women’s health issues in all CCISD projects. While it also participated in other initiatives, the main mandates of the committee are reproductive health and the reduction of maternal mortality.

The third phase of the Project (AIDS 3) is bridged with the Gender and Development Support Team, testifying to the importance awarded to inequities between men and women as an inherent factor of the spread of the HIV-AIDS epidemic. The Gender and Development (GAD) interventions should help the Project reach its goal and will contribute to the development of a new field expertise
