Maternity
with fewer risks in the Yako Health District in Burkina
Faso
(1999)
This
project is the result of long negotiations among Burkina
Faso, CCISD, the World Health Organization (WHO),
the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF),
the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF),
the International Plan and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Technische Zusammernarbeit ,
after which Burkina Faso defined its national strategy for
maternity without risk.
In
September 1997, CCISD presented a document to the Burkina
Faso Ministry of Health and the UNPF accepted to finance
a feasibility study in 1999 for a pilot project entitled
Contributing to maternity with fewer risks, District of
Yako, Passoré Health Region, Burkina Faso.
The
project is aimed at improving the health of women by helping
to significantly reduce maternal morbidity through support
for health services, as well as encouraging women, women's
organizations and the community to become involved in advocating
better health, and defining and providing better health
services.
