PRESS RELEASE: Inclusive Development and Improved Services for the Benefit of Women and Girls’ Health in Bolivia

The Société de coopération pour le développement international (SOCODEVI) and the Centre for International Cooperation in Health and Development (CCISD) are joining forces to improve the living conditions of Bolivian families, particularly women and girls, as part of a new initiative, PROMAVI.

With the financial support of the Government of Canada, the new Multisectoral Programme to Improve Livelihoods in Rural Areas of Bolivia (PROMAVI) aims to contribute to inclusive economic development and the improvement of services offered by municipalities for the benefit of women, youth and children from 14 municipalities of Chuquisaca department. All in all, PROMAVI will directly affect more than 10, 000 women, men and children from some of the most disadvantaged, mainly indigenous, communities in the department.

“To achieve these goals, PROMAVI’s innovative approach combines capacity building for local farmers and their families and support for local communities and governments in Bolivia. The establishment of new value chains with profitability potential and adapted to the specific context, capacity building to support services aimed at promoting a more enabling environment to improving families’ health and their living conditions, the promotion of gender equality as well as organizational and municipal management support are the main areas of our intervention”, says M. Richard Lacasse, General Manager of SOCODEVI.

“In order to contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, it is imperative to adopt multisectoral approaches with the potential for a positive impact on several determinants of health and well-being. PROMAVI is a step in this direction and we are convinced that the combined expertise of CCISD and SOCODEVI will make a real difference in the lives of Chuquisaca’s populations, both in terms of health and economic growth”, added M. Robert Beaudry, General Manager of CCISD.

Carried out jointly by SOCODEVI and CCISD, PROMAVI’s activities will be implemented over five years thanks to a financial contribution of CA $ 11 million from the Government of Canada.
