A SMALL GESTURE, A BIG DIFFERENCE

In Haiti, close to 350 women per 100,000 births die in childbirth, and more than 30 out of every 1,000 newborns die within two days. These alarming mortality rates could be largely prevented if the number of facility-based deliveries would increase.

In order to improve the utilization of health facilities by pregnant women, the PRISMA project, a CCISD initiative, carried out an effective strategy which consists in the distribution of birth kits to women who give birth in PRISMA-supported facilities.

Considered by women as an incentive, these birth kits filled with basic baby products have motivated many mothers to overcome various geographic and economic barriers to give birth in a safe environment that offers adequate obstetric and neonatal care services.

WITH YOUR SUPPORT, THE SECOND PHASE OF THE PRISMA PROJECT WILL CONTINUE IMPLEMENTING THIS SUCCESSFUL STRATEGY.

By donating to Santé de base pour les communautés (SBC), a charity created by CCISD, you can contribute to reducing maternal and newborn mortality in Haiti.

For each 30$ received, a Haitian mother who gives birth in a health facility will receive a birth kit. Through a periodical newsletter, you will in turn receive information on the positive impact of your donation.

‘’Women feel like their needs are supported with this birth kit they receive after they have given birth […] Now, when a woman tells me she will come to the health centre to give birth, she really does.’’
