Our mission
CCISD has given itself the mission to help improve the health of populations most in need in lower income countries by strengthening health sector resources and providing support to community groups associated with these resources.
To ensure the sustainability of local and national health initiatives, CCISD’s mission relies on four principles, integral to every project:
- Knowledge transfer of through training programs, workshops, seminars, and professional coaching directly in the field.
- Empowerment to strengthen, give value and respect local resources and competences in the health area. In order to provide local communities with tools to participate in health promotion and fight against diseases, support to community participation is an essential part of CCISD interventions based on empowerment.
- Gender equality based on the fact that discrimination has a detrimental impact on women’s health, CCISD promotes women’s role in society, and promotes strengthening their individual and collective power, and increasing their participation in the decision-making process and in acting duties. CCISD also supports interventions that are aimed at increasing men’s understanding of the mechanisms that contribute to building inequalities.
- Ownership promotes sustainability and respects local skill and culture. A direct result of knowledge transfer, ownership serves as an anchor for newly acquired methods and concepts, allowing them to be adapted and truly integrated by the community.
