Our mission

The CCISD’s chosen mission is to help sustainably improve the health of populations by strengthening health sector resources and supporting the community groups working in association with these resources.

To ensure the sustainability of local and national health initiatives, the CCISD’s mission relies on four principles, integral to every project:
  • Transfer of knowledge, through career coaching, guidance and supervision, training programs, conferences, workshops and seminars.
  • Empowerment, to strengthen, to highlight and to respect local resources and competencies at every level of the healthcare chain. Supporting community participation is an essential part of CCISD empowerment-based interventions, providing local communities with the tools that enable them to take part in promoting health and fighting disease.
  • Gender equality. Gender discrimination has a negative impact on women’s health. The CCISD helps promote women’s role in society and strengthen their individual and collective power, increasing their participation in the decision-making process and in acting duties. The CCISD also supports interventions aimed at giving men a better understanding of the mechanisms that help contribute to inequalities.
  • Ownership promotes sustainability and respects local skill and culture. Directly linked to the transfer of knowledge, ownership anchors newly acquired methods and concepts, allowing them to be adapted and truly integrated by the community.
